Pure Bride Styled Shoot at Bruny Island Coastal Retreats

Styled Shoot

We had the opportunity to design and style several wedding shoots at a number of scenic locations at Bruny Island Coastal Retreats for Pure Bride Magazine in August 2019. With endless coastlines, rugged and rolling hills, stunning cliff top views and natural preserved environments, it was a no brainer in creating magic there.

Honeyfig prides itself on showcasing the wild Tasmanian scenery and with the chance to do so on an island, off an island. Well, that is exactly what we captured.

I designed three entirely different looks that both encapsulated our brand as a Wedding Design and Styling business, as well pairing this with Bruny Island epic and raw landscape offerings.

On a side note, did I mention that I designed these three looks whilst travelling in Sri Lanka with limited Wifi and never having seen the venues in person?

YEP! We can still come up with a concept and design even if we have never viewed the venue. The art is in the design, the layouts and in being adaptable in executing alternative plans if needed. We can literally create magic anywhere and that challenge always brings out the best in the final result.

We wanted to showcase the amazing Tasmanian vendors that our little island has to offer, so for each shoot, we were very fortunate to work with a range of incredibly talented businesses, sourcing all our own floral designers, models, clothing/bridal wear and all props/styling items and more.

Cloudy Bay Beach House

First day shoot, which we like to call: Dark Romance.

We focused on creating a very textural and sensory experience with darker colours and tones, black sequin BOSS dress, emerald green velvet table runner flowing over the table; bull skull and beautifully designed dried floral statement piece.

The Cloudy Beach House is a perfect offering for 2 to 16 guests. We can style your ceremony followed by a post-elopement sweetheart table for two or an intimate styled dinner for you and your guests, underneath the stars. Don’t forget we can also arrange a private chef to satisfy the souls (and stomachs).

Cloudy Bay Villa

Second day shoot: Wild Things.

Colour and vibrancy were our best friends for this shoot. We wanted to align bold and fun colours and pair this with the magic of the coastline and rocky bay backdrops and wild native grasses. Our Genie Tent was set-up in the most magical spot where you will have endless views of South Bruny’s incredible coastline. Seriously, nothing compares to this amazing and unique experience.

Cloudy Bay Villa can accommodate elopements and/or intimate weddings up to 40 guests, and you bet your sweet little pie that we can help design and plan your perfect event. Whether it’s an elopement for two, or an intimate wedding that is styled with love and glam.

The Lodge

Third day shoot: Sultry Lovers.

This styled shoot showcased love in all its forms. We are fierce advocates of #loveislove and these two strong, fierce and sultry lovers captured exactly that. We didn’t want too many props to take away from this genuine couples love for one another; but we did have incredible statement floral design (check out that headpiece).

When designing the floral work, my three things were to showcase Australian natives in a different way- a headpiece that was different in shape to a circular flower crowns, non-symmetrical and oversized. Whimsy Florist (North Hobart) absolutely nailed this look and design to a tee.

This shoot was taken at the back of the Bruny Island Coastal Retreat Lodge. The Lodge is a character filled timber cottage, which can sleep up to 24 people and host up to 40 guests for an intimate wedding. Imagine a ceremony that is a hop and skip from the accommodation down by the water, which is then followed by cocktails and sunsets over an open bonfire.

Absolute perfection.

It goes without saying but we would like to thank the Bruny Island Coastal Retreats Team who hosted our entire stay. They truly love Bruny Island and have so much local knowledge to share. Their hospitality is undoubtedly second to none. We also want to give a big thanks to the amazing, Anna from Pure Bride (Expo/Magazine) for inviting us along this journey and for her all work in overseeing and coordinating these 3 amazing days, with some of Tasmania’s best vendors. You can read and see more from this three-day shoot in Pure Bride’s Magazine; Issue 7.
